Why we’re building Video Highlight.
The Problem with Video
Despite its growth, video remains an inefficient medium for knowledge transfer.
Professionals, students, and researchers are asking these questions every day:
- - Should I watch this video?
- - What’s this video about?
- - What are the relevant sections for me?
- - What are the key points?
- - How can I bookmark important sections from this video?
- - How can I easily take notes without constantly pausing and rewinding?
- - I just remembered a key point from a video I watched 2 weeks ago. Was it at minute 10 or 15?
The way we consume video today is outdated. It’s passive and linear, more for entertainment than learning. That's because platforms optimize for watch time and engagement.
However, we want the opposite - to reduce the time to insight.
The Solution
It turns out we solved all these problems for text. So what if we you could interact with videos like we do with text? Search, highlight, and annotate as easily as a document?
Video Highlight does just that. It uses AI to identify key insights and pinpoint their exact locations. You get timestamped summaries and transcripts, letting you jump to the moments that matter.
You can ask: “What are the main arguments in this lecture?” and get an instant answer with links to the relevant sections. Or search across multiple videos for a specific topic and finding it immediately.
Our Journey
We started with building a slick UX to make videos interactive, precise timestamped summaries, and a lightning fast Chat / Video Q&A. This takes care of compression.
The next step is to improve discovery and personalization. We want to make it easy to find the right video content and to get recommendations based on your interests.
The end goal for us is to reduce the time it takes to extract knowledge from video content.
