¿Qué hacer si alguien se atraganta? #Desobstrucción de la vía aérea
Airway Obstruction: Identification and Response
Understanding Airway Obstruction
- An airway obstruction occurs when an object or food blocks the air passage, preventing proper airflow. This can lead to serious health risks if not addressed promptly.
Types of Airway Obstructions
- There are two types of airway obstructions:
- Partial Obstruction: The person can still breathe, cough, and make sounds. It's crucial to encourage them to continue coughing to clear the obstruction.
- Total Obstruction: The person cannot make any sound, and their skin may appear pale or purple. Immediate action is required as they could lose consciousness.
Responding to Total Airway Obstruction
- To assist someone with a total obstruction:
- Move the person to a safe area.
- Stand behind them, placing one foot behind for stability.
- Use your arms around their waist; form a fist with one hand just above their navel.
