OFPPT Academy SOFT SKILLS : Gestion de stress PARTIE 3
New Section
This section delves into the factors that contribute to a situation being stressful, focusing on the concept of SPIN, which stands for four variables determining stress-inducing situations.
Factors Contributing to Stress
- Stress arises when there is a perceived lack of control over a situation. For instance, feeling helpless when a loved one is seriously ill can lead to stress due to the inability to influence the outcome.
- The element of a threatened personality plays a significant role in stress. Feeling that one's ego or competence is at risk can be highly stressful, such as fearing judgment or ridicule from others.
- Stress can also stem from unpredictability. Unexpected events disrupt planned routines, causing stress reactions. Distinguishing between true unpredictability and inadequate preparation is crucial.
- Novelty contributes to stress as well. Facing new experiences like interviews or public speaking can induce stress due to unfamiliarity and the challenge of navigating uncharted territory.
Understanding Stressful Situations
- Recognizing these four criteria (SPIN) helps explain why certain situations trigger stress responses: unpredictability, novelty, threats to one's personality, and lack of control.
