[Música] y el palangre de fondo
This section discusses the fishing method used by European vessels to catch European hake using longlines, known for its selective nature and individual treatment of each fish.
Fishing Method and Selectivity
- Longline fishing is utilized by European vessels in European waters to catch European hake selectively.
- The fishing areas for the vessels are located in cold European waters, specifically zones 100 6, 7, and 8, extending from west of Scotland to the north of the Bay of Biscay.
- The vessels are typically around 30 meters long with a crew of about 15 sailors. Each longline consists of approximately 85 hooks with a maximum length of 250 meters. They conduct between 8 to 10 sets per tide lasting around 10 days.
Catch and Quality
- The primary target of this fleet is the European hake; however, they also capture other species like sea bream, cod, prawns, pomfret, or red mullet.
