What is SAP GUI?
Definition and Purpose of SAP GUI
- SAP GUI (Graphical User Interface) is the platform used for remote access to the central SAP server within a network of enterprises.
- It serves as a universal user interface technology for working with various systems, including SAP HANA and the Business Suite.
Architecture of SAP GUI
- The architecture consists of three layers:
- Presentation Layer: Where users connect through client terminals.
- Application Layer: Manages all services for applications.
- Database Layer: Provides storage and retrieval of business data.
Functionality and Access
- The client software directly calls the required application on the SAP server, functioning similarly to a web browser that retrieves information from the server.
- It allows access to functionalities across various applications like SAP ERP, CRM, PLM, etc.

Software Components
- Each computer must have the SAP GUI software installed at the presentation layer; it uses classic screen technology for user interaction.
- Different family members of SAP GUI have unique attributes suited for various user environments.
Variants of Access
- There are two types of data access using SAP GUI:

- Integrated Access: Involves tools like the Enterprise Portal or NetWeaver Client.
