How to Get HM Flash and Permanent Flash

Getting HM Flash

• To get the HM flash, you need to complete a quest given by a scientist in one of the hotels found in Viridian City, Pewter City, Cerulean City, or Vermilion City.

• The easiest quest is given by a bug catcher who asks you to show him a fully evolved bug type. You can easily complete this quest by evolving Caterpie or Weedle into Butterfree or Beedrill.

• After completing the quest, talk to the scientist who will give you the HM flash.

Getting Permanent Flash

• To get permanent flash, you need to complete 10 quests given by various NPCs throughout the game.

• Once you have completed 10 quests, talk to the scientist again who will give you a lantern that substitutes for the HM flash. This means that you no longer need a Pokemon that knows flash when entering dark caves.

Tips for Completing Quests

• You can only accept as many quests as there are cities with hotels until you progress further in the game.

• It is recommended that you wait until you have three or four badges before attempting to complete 10 quests.
