Initial Assessment and Response
- The responder approaches the victim, ensuring the area is safe before checking the patient's responsiveness.
- If the patient does not respond, assistance is requested as they are alone in this situation.
- The responder recalls the "chin lift" maneuver to open the airway, emphasizing a maximum of 10 seconds for assessment.
- It is confirmed that the patient is unconscious but breathing, indicating a critical state requiring immediate action.
Positioning the Patient
- The responder must place the patient in a lateral recovery position for safety.
- The arm closest to them is positioned at a 90-degree angle while securing the opposite wrist near the neck area.
- A leg on the same side as the bent arm is also folded inward to assist with positioning.
