To filter messages from a mailing list, open an email from the group or alias you'd like to filter.

Click the downward arrow next to the group name and then click "Filter messages from this mailing list."

You'll automatically be taken to a filter prepopulated for that alias. Then you can tell Gmail what to do with those emails, like skip the inbox, mark as read, or star it.
