• Hermes serves as an intermediary between gods and mortals, embodying diplomacy and seduction. He mediates between day and night to achieve harmony.

• Despite his virtuous traits, Hermes is also seen as a cunning trickster and thief. His dual nature connects him to both science and magic through the medieval concept of "hermetic science."

• The word "hermetic" has two meanings: one related to the studies of the philosopher's stone (alchemy), and another referring to silence or impenetrability understood only by those who can interpret it.

• Hermes symbolizes versatility, eloquence, and mediation. He is revered as the protector of travelers and pathways; Greeks placed statues (herms) at crossroads for guidance.
