Understanding SAP Transactions and Master Data
Introduction to SAP Transactions
- SAP transactions are application programs that execute various business processes, allowing users to view information related to each process.
- There are two types of transactions: standard transactions provided by SAP and user-defined transactions (Z transactions) created specifically for individual companies.
Types of Transactions
- Standard transactions follow a specific nomenclature where the first letter indicates the module; for example, financial modules start with 'F' and sales modules with 'V'.
- The last two digits in transaction codes indicate the type of action:
- 01 for creation,
- 02 for modification,
- 03 for visualization.
For instance, FB01 is used to post a document, while FB02 modifies it.
Finding Transaction Codes
- Users can find transaction codes in the SAP library by entering a technical code (e.g., S11) in the command bar, which leads them to relevant database tables.
- By using wildcard symbols like '*', users can search for all options starting with a specific letter and retrieve comprehensive results from their queries.
Understanding Master Data
- Master data serves as a central information source within companies, typically remaining static over time; it includes data on customers, suppliers, materials, and accounts.
- Each ERP module has its own specific master data but integrates into a single database system that reduces redundancy and improves response times across different areas such as sales and human resources.
Example of Material Management
- To visualize master data in material management, users can enter transaction code MM03 in the command field to access material views such as classification or stock details.
- Users can utilize match code buttons during searches to display lists based on initial input codes, facilitating easier navigation through available materials.
Conclusion
- This session covered essential aspects of SAP transactions and master data management crucial for effective use within various business functions.
