The International Labour Organization (ILO)
- Founded in 1919 as part of the Treaty of Versailles, the ILO aims to promote social justice and decent work globally.
- It became a specialized agency of the United Nations after World War II, currently comprising 187 member countries.
ILO's Mission and Achievements
- Recognized as the global authority on labor issues, the ILO received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1969.
- The organization uniquely allows governments, employers, and workers equal voice and vote in policy-making.
Functions and Activities of the ILO
- Conducts studies and data analysis on global labor conditions under its Director-General's leadership.
- Hosts an annual International Labour Conference each June to discuss and adopt labor standards.

Objectives of Decent Work Program
- The Decent Work Program focuses on four strategic objectives:
- Promote decent work opportunities,
- Improve social protection,
- Strengthen tripartite activity and social dialogue,
- Ensure fundamental principles and rights at work.
Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals
- Decent work is recognized as Goal No. 8 within the UN's Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
