While the Vietnam War was raging across the sea, Lyndon Johnson set out to correct the ills of American society back home. His major effort to this end was a set of policies known as the Great Society, which was really just an extension of FDR's New Deal. In order to combat the rampant poverty plaguing American cities, the Great Society implemented many potential cures like Medicare and Medicaid. Additionally, the Great Society sought to further curb the effects of racial discrimination. The Supreme Court also got in on the fun during liberalism's golden age with a series of decisions that expanded the civil rights of Americans, including Baker v Carr, Engel v Vitale, Connecticut v Griswold, etc. In the end, the Great Society did not eradicate poverty from America, nor did it heal all of America's societal wounds.
