How to Manually Calibrate the ZT411 and ZT421 Zebra Printers

ZT411 Series Printer Manual Calibration

This video provides instructions on how to manually calibrate the ZT411 series printer.

Identifying Media Features

• To place the image in the correct position on the media, we must first identify the features in the media.

• Most media contains features that identify the start position. If your media has a gap, select "gap" in the menu. If your media has a black mark, select "mark" in the menu. If your media is continuous, select "continuous".

Setting Up Sensors

• Set up sensors for black mark media by setting sensor type to reflective and for all other types of media set sensor to transmissive.

• Locate and adjust sensor optimally if using gap or hole/notch feature. Avoid locating sensor under hole or notch radius.

Loading Media and Ribbon

• Load both fully inserted and ensure any handling options are calibrated as well (peel liner, take up cutter, rewind).

Adjusting Sensor for Non-Simple Rectangle Media Shapes

• For non-simple rectangle shapes such as circular shapes locate sensor over leading part of label.

• For print on underside of media locate sensor away from print so it does not get false reading.

Manual Calibration Steps

1. Press and hold pause and cancel buttons.

2. Raise the media door.

3. Press next.

4. Open print head assembly.

5. Press next.

6. Remove ribbon.

7. Press next.

8. Locate and adjust media sensor.

9. Press next

10.Remove about six inches or 150 millimeters of labels from liner

11.Press next

12.Move backing until it is under the sensor

13.Press next

14.Press next

15.Close printhead.

16.Press next.

17.Remove excess backing.

18.Press calibrate to start media calibration.

19.Start ribbon calibration by opening printhead and reloading media and ribbon.

Adjusting Maximum Label Length

• The amount of media can be reduced by lowering the maximum label length setting in the menu. However, it is important that the maximum label length setting is larger than the label length you're printing otherwise the printer may not correctly calibrate. Please note that the number in the menu is in inches.

Testing Calibration

• Press pause then feed to test calibration. Close media door after testing.
