Wikilearn como herramienta digital para la difusión del conocimiento

Introduction to Wikiland as a Digital Tool for Knowledge Dissemination

Overview of the Presentation

  • The presentation is led by Dr. María Sefidari and Patricia Orrillo Guerra, focusing on the role of Wikiland in knowledge dissemination during the fifth International Congress on Decent Innovation, Education, and Knowledge Transfer held from May 7-9, 2026.

Course: Mujeres de Zarzuela

  • The second edition of the "Mujeres de Zarzuela" course was developed through collaboration between Wikisfera and Teatro de la Zarzuela, following a successful pilot in May 2025 that included four virtual sessions.
  • Topics covered in the first edition included editing Wikipedia with a gender perspective, using reliable sources, translating content, and structuring encyclopedic entries.

Outcomes of the First Edition

Editatona Virtual

  • A virtual edit-a-thon concluded the first edition where participants applied their learning by creating and improving entries about women in zarzuela, enhancing accessible knowledge about Spanish lyricism.

Launching the Second Edition

Expansion of Project Scope

  • Due to satisfaction with initial results, a longer project was initiated this year with 72 participants from eight universities across Spain running from February to May 2026. Sessions were conducted monthly via Zoom and recorded for accessibility.

Course Structure and Innovations

Use of Wiklearn Platform

  • Participants select a woman from zarzuela to research throughout the semester aiming to publish their findings on Wikipedia; this edition uniquely utilized Wiklearn for course management—marking its first use in Spain and Spanish language contexts.

Educational Approach

Integration of Learning Tools

  • The course comprises nine topics divided into three modules released sequentially; each module includes practical components and quizzes necessary for progression through the course material. Additionally, it features an integrated forum for communication among students regarding progress and questions.

Scalability and Engagement

Enhancing Student Interaction

  • The integration within Wiklearn allows centralized communication which enhances scalability for instructors managing larger groups while tracking student progress effectively without multiple channels complicating interactions.

Preliminary Results

Participant Engagement Metrics

  • Initial data shows engagement levels with 68 user accounts created out of 72 enrolled; however, some students remain inactive despite registration—a common occurrence noted in educational settings. Participants have completed significant tasks including translations published live on Wikipedia.

Impact Assessment

Achievements So Far

  • As of now, there are 49 translations completed (65% published), along with 22 articles created from scratch; these numbers are expected to rise as final activities approach completion at the end of the course period. Overall feedback indicates positive outcomes compared to previous editions regarding article creation and participant retention rates.

Conclusion & Acknowledgments

Closing Remarks

  • Dr. Sefidari expresses gratitude towards collaborators Francisco Prendes from Teatro de la Zarzuela and team members from Fundación Media for their support during this pioneering initiative utilizing Big Learn in Spain's educational landscape focused on Wikimedia projects.
