Brief Update on Cardano

Cardno Product Update

In this section, Charles Parkinson provides an update on the progress of Cardno and its evolution.

Demo and Framework for Network Protocol

  • Charles received a great demo that included material on logging, reporting, and network protocol.
  • A framework has been built to demonstrate the consensus protocol and many nodes running together.
  • The team is rapidly moving towards replacing all old legacy code with new Haskell code.

Integration Work and Technical Debt Reduction

  • The Haskell wallet backend has already been coupled up with the Rust node.
  • After July 19th, integration work will begin for the Haskell wallet backend to the new Haskell node.
  • Technical debt reduction and cleaning are also being done in preparation for shipping Daedalus 1.6.

New GUI Features in Daedalus 1.6

  • Daedalus 1.6 will ship in early August or late July with many new GUI features based on feedback from help and support desk.

DFT Hearts Work Turned On Soon

  • DFT hearts work will be turned on soon, probably sometime early August.

Rust Test Net Updates

  • The Rust test net is receiving weekly releases with added features.
  • An SDK may be built for people to build stuff with the Rust self-node test net.
  • A professional economist is being brought onboard to review the incentive scheme after network set up is complete.

Production Code for Shelly Rules

  • Shelly rules from formal specifications are being turned into actual production code through a rapid process.

Stateful Task Force Update

The stateful task force channel has over 2,000 active participants who are building the self-load test net and providing feedback. Stake is coming soon once the network is set up.

Regular Communications and AMA

David will begin doing regular communications with the community every four to six weeks. There will be an announcement of all progress made that month followed by an AMA.

  • Questions for the AMA will be solicited live.

Science Update

Scientists are preparing Hydra, Agora Casperos, and Most Chronos for submission to upcoming conferences. A preliminary design for Hydra should be available in September. Orborous Classic paper was recently released after two years of research.

Research Update

The team is doing research into private computation, more scalable side chains, and zero-knowledge proof paper called Sonics. They have a whole family of papers on the Neat files and the proof of stake sidechain side that are coming out.

Upcoming Release and Foundation Update

Charles Hoskinson provides an update on the upcoming release and foundation.

New Director for Cardano Foundation

  • The Cardano Foundation has a new director, Heinrich, who comes from UBS and has a long background in law and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Heinrich is focused on operations, leadership, community, and executing the mission of the Cardano Foundation.
  • Goals discussed with Heinrich include transparency, building a diverse board, and introducing himself to the community as executive director.

Progress Update

  • Negotiations are going well with a company that wants to play something on Cardano in the anti-counterfeiting realm.
  • Productive work is being done in Mongolia, Georgia, Ethiopia. Announcements will be made when appropriate.
  • Hard work is required to do great things. IOHK partners wake up every day to do hard work. Output of this hard work includes cutting releases all the time and turning great research into great code for the community.

Future Plans

  • Shelley release is expected to be great. Plutus language upgrades are coming soon. GHC J's progress is looking good. Asterisks progress with webassembly looks sharp too.
  • Going to a hackathon in Wyoming where Plutus workshops and Marlowe workshops will be held.

Publications

  • A book about Flutist was recently published on Amazon. Another book will be written after Flutist is further along.

Conclusion

Charles Hoskinson concludes his update on the progress of Cardano and its foundation.

  • Hard work is required to do great things. Every day, 200 people wake up at IOHK and their partners wake up every single day to do hard work.
  • The output of this hard work includes cutting releases all the time and turning great research into great code for the community.
  • Charles Hoskinson is proud of the progress being made and is extremely hopeful for Shelley's release.

Project Management Best Practices

In this section, the speaker expresses appreciation for feedback and patience. They emphasize the importance of a two-way relationship in project management and how it leads to rapid iteration.

Importance of Feedback in Project Management

  • The speaker expresses gratitude for feedback received.
  • Feedback is essential in project management.
  • A two-way relationship between team members is crucial for success.
  • Rapid iteration is possible when there is open communication and feedback.

Conclusion

  • The speaker concludes by thanking the audience and saying goodbye.
