02 Lining Up Cores
Lining Up Cores on a Bloomfield Machine Winder
This video demonstrates the process for lining up cores on a Bloomfield machine winder. The process involves measuring from the outside of the rail to the film edge, deducting three inches from that measurement, and lining up the core with that measurement on the shaft.
Measuring and Taping Cores
- Use a tape measure to measure from the outside of the rail on the winder to the film edge.
- Deduct three inches from this measurement and line up the core with that measurement on the shaft.
- Air up the shaft before taping it to ensure that cores stay in their exact position.
- Tape both sides of each core by going adhesive side down, flipping over, adhesive side up, and then adhesive side down again.
Validating Core Size
- Measure both sides of each core even if running one-up to validate correct size before loading them into machine.
- Leave loaded shaft in upper part of magazine so it can be unracked if needed.
Key Points
- Measuring from outside rail to film edge is more accurate than eyeballing it.
- Leaving loaded shaft in upper part of magazine allows for easy unracking if needed.
Measuring and Aligning Cores on the Winder
In this section, the speaker discusses important things to keep in mind when measuring and aligning cores on the winder.
Safety Precautions
- There is a nip point between the black drum and the winding roll that can cause injury if hands get caught in it.
- All measurements should be taken in front of the winding roll, away from the nip point.
- Never put the tape measure back by the black drum.
Safe Measurement Techniques
- Measure from the rail edge to the roll edge while working in front of the spinning roll.
- Gather safe and accurate measurements by being cautious about where you work.
