Learn about our anchovy fishmeal process
Fish Meal Production Process
This video explains the process of producing fish meal from anchovy, a valuable and sustainable species that is fished responsibly. The process involves four stages: unloading and storage, cooking and pressing, drying, and cooling, grinding, and packaging.
Unloading and Storage
- Fresh anchovies are unloaded onto floating platforms called chatas.
- Water is added to the boat to generate a mixture of water with fish that allows the pumping of the raw material without deterioration.
- The fish is pumped from the boat through underwater pipes to the production plant's drains.
- The raw material is weighed in hoppers before being distributed to ponds for storage.
Cooking and Pressing
- After being transported by helical screws to a pan, the anchovy goes to a feeder hopper that distributes it to kitchens for cooking.
- The cooked product goes through a pre-strainer that carries out the first stage of draining before being deposited in presses that separate the liquid portion from the solid portion.
- Recovered solids are included in this stage to use most of the raw material while complying with maximum permissible limits.
- Liquid products are treated in an oil plant to produce oil for human consumption.
Drying
- The whole cake goes through three drying stages where its moisture content is gradually reduced using rotating discs, rotating tube systems, and hot air dryers.
Cooling, Grinding, and Packaging
- After drying, scrap is cooled before being transferred to mills where it becomes finer particles until obtaining perfect granulate form for clients.
- An antioxidant is applied before the final product is placed in 50-kilo sacks that are sown and transported by trucks to warehouses for distribution.
Conclusion
- TASA, the world's largest exporter of high-quality fish meal, produces a sustainable and reliable product that has received various awards and recognitions for its good environmental management and sustainable approach.
