What is ANOVA and How Does It Work?
Understanding ANOVA
- ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) is a statistical method used to determine if there are significant differences between groups by comparing the variation among group means to the variation within each group.
- The analysis relies on two hypotheses: the null hypothesis, which states that there are no significant differences among groups, and the alternative hypothesis, which suggests that at least one group differs significantly.
Assumptions for Conducting ANOVA
- To perform an ANOVA test, three basic assumptions must be met:
- The study should investigate the effect of different levels of a factor on a variable of interest.
- The effects being studied should have a normal distribution with constant variance.
- Observations must be independent from one another.
