How to Play Paddle: Rules and Techniques

Getting Started with Paddle

  • When stepping onto the court, players should slide their hand through the strap, hold the racket with a hammer grip, and tighten the strap. Proper warm-up is essential before starting play.
  • The match begins with a serve decided by a draw. The serve involves dropping the ball behind the service line and hitting it into the diagonal service box on the opponent's side after it bounces.

Serving Rules

  • The ball must be at or below waist level when struck. After serving, the first bounce must hit within the service box; if not, it's an invalid serve.
  • If a player fails to cross the net or hits it directly to their opponent's side without bouncing first, they lose a point. Players can use any part of the court during play.

Gameplay Mechanics

  • Players may return balls after one bounce or by volleying them using their glass wall. The ball can bounce off one or more walls as long as it is returned before two bounces occur.

Scoring System

  • In paddle, points are scored as follows: 15 points for winning a ball first, then 30, followed by 40. Winning four points secures a serve and wins that game.
  • A tie at 40 requires winning two consecutive points to secure a serve. To win a set, six games must be won with at least a two-game difference.

Tie Breaker and Match Conclusion

  • At 6-6 in games, a tie break determines the winner of that set; seven points are needed with at least a two-point lead to win.
