Simple Past Tense
- The simple past tense is used for finished past actions.
- "I watched a movie yesterday."
- "I ate dinner two hours ago."
- "I was busy last week."
- Regular verbs form the simple past by adding -ed to the verb.
- Example: watched (simple past of watch).
- Irregular verbs change into different forms in the simple past.
- Examples: do-did, drink-drank, eat-ate, go-went, have-had, run-ran, say-said, sing-sang, sleep-slept, write-wrote.
Verb Forms and Usage
- The verb form remains the same for all subjects in the simple past.
- Example: ate (simple past of eat).
- The verb 'be' has two simple past forms: was and were.
- Example: I was cold yesterday afternoon.
