Introduction to Pickleball Court Layout
Understanding the Court Design
- The court layout resembles that of a badminton court, with specific areas designated for play.
- Highlighted zones on either side of the net are known as non-volley zones; players can enter these zones but cannot strike the ball while standing in them unless it has bounced first.
Scoring and Serving Rules
Game Structure and Scoring
- Games are typically played to 11 points, with points only scored by the serving team.
- The server begins from their right side of the court, hitting the ball below their waist into the opponent's serve receive box. The ball must clear the non-volley zone line and bounce once before being returned.
Return and Rally Dynamics
- After serving, both teams must allow the return to bounce before they can hit it back, maintaining a similar play style to badminton. Players may hit the ball either in mid-air or after it bounces during rallies.
- In doubles play, each player on a team gets an opportunity to serve; if they win a rally, they score a point and switch sides with their partner for subsequent serves. If they lose a rally, service passes to the opposing team.
