SMC Sheet Molding Compound, BMC Bulk Molding Compound,GMT Glass Mat Thermoplastics
Sheet Molding Compounds Overview
Composition and Structure
- Sheet molding compounds (SMCs) consist of two layers of resin paste with a flat layer of chopped and/or unidirectional glass fibers sandwiched in between.
- Typical SMCs contain approximately 30% glass fibers by weight, enhancing strength and durability.
- The resin pastes used are generally polyester or vinyl compounds, which contribute to the overall properties of the material.
Additives and Manufacturing Process
- SMCs often incorporate fillers, additives, and other materials aimed at reducing material shrinkage during molding.
- These compounds are designed to increase dimensional stability of parts while also lowering overall material costs.
