Quantum Hermeticism: An Introduction
Introduction to Hermeticism
This section provides an introduction to Hermeticism, a metaphysical system that forms the basis for many esoteric and occult schools of thought. The ideas were said to have originated with Hermes Trismegistus, whom the Egyptians identified with their God of wisdom.
Origins of Hermeticism
- Hermeticism is a metaphysical system that dates back to ancient Egypt.
- The ideas were written down in a vast body of literature called the Corpus Hermeticum.
- Much of this literature was lost with the burning of the Library of Alexandria.
- Historians believed that the text actually dated back to the second century and not back to Egypt because the writing inside of the manuscripts was in Greek.
Preservation and Publication
- 42 Greek manuscripts of the original hermetic material were saved.
- In 1908, a newer hermetic document called "The Kybalion" was published containing hermetic material like these seven principles.
The Seven Principles of Hermeticism
This section explains each principle in detail and how they relate to our current understanding of the universe.
Principle 1: Mentalism
- All is mind; the universe is mentally constructed within a universal mind called God by religion.
- A physics-based description of consciousness compatible with its facts will be needed for scientific derivation.
Principle 2: Correspondence
- As above so below; as within so without. The higher spiritual world corresponds to patterns in the physical world.
- Quantum cognition and the science of emergent space-time can readily explain this principle.
Principle 3: Vibration
- Everything vibrates; nothing rests. Even space-time itself is a result of these vibrations.
- Quantum cognition demonstrates a relation between changes in consciousness and changes in vibrational frequencies.
Principle 4: Polarity
- Everything is dual; everything has its polar opposite. Opposites are identical in nature but different in degree.
- This principle is the byproduct of the principle of mentalism in combination with the principle of vibration.
Principle 5: Rhythm
- Everything flows out and in; everything has its tides. All things rise and fall.
- The principle of rhythm derives from the principle of vibration, given that everything is built up from vibrating waves of probability as quantum mechanics reveals.
Principle 6: Cause and Effect
- Not mentioned in this transcript.
Principle 7: Gender
- Not mentioned in this transcript.
