Larger surround formats like 5.1 or 7.1 never really took off due to the complexity of setting up systems in conventional rooms. Dolby Atmos expands audio immersion - the idea of having sound sources all around you. Unlike conventional surround formats, Atmos includes a second plane of speakers above the listener - creating an even deeper perception of space and sonic reality.
