Importance of Planning in Crane Operations

• The primary function of cranes is to lift suspended loads, necessitating operators to adhere to basic lifting concepts and safety measures.

• Operators must plan the lifting operation thoroughly, ensuring that all equipment and load stabilization points are inspected before use.

Equipment Inspection and Setup

• It is crucial to check each component involved in the lifting process, including cables, hooks, chains, and slings. A checklist should be utilized for this purpose.

• The area of operation must be clearly marked and restricted to prevent unauthorized personnel from entering during crane operations.

Load Handling Procedures

• The angle of the lifting cable should not exceed two degrees relative to the load; the hook's tip must always face upwards with a secure mechanism in place.

• If guidance is needed for suspended loads, long ropes should be used while maintaining a safe distance from the load. Hands should never be used for guiding.
