  • Her primary symptom has been sciatic pain, which started mildly but gradually worsened over time; she recalls needing assistance while traveling due to this discomfort.

Medical History and Frustrations

  • Over the years, Charlotte has spent significant amounts on various treatments including physiotherapy, chiropractic care, MRIs, massages, and nerve conduction tests without finding effective solutions.
  • Despite consulting multiple specialists who could not identify any issues initially, she later discovered she had a type of cyst affecting her nerve after an MRI five years ago.

Recent Developments in Pain Management

Exploring TMS and Personal Healing Journey

Introduction to TMS and Influences

  • The speaker discovered Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS) through social media, particularly via Nicole's podcast on chronic pain, which opened new avenues for understanding their condition.
  • Initial skepticism arose from the abundance of online content that seemed too good to be true; however, some resources appeared credible and well-presented.

Engagement with Curable Program

  • After a period of passive learning without improvement, they sought additional resources to further their healing journey.

The Theme of Safety in Therapeutic Modalities

  • The overarching theme across various therapeutic modalities is the feeling of safety, which can be influenced by past experiences and upbringing.
  • Different approaches may seem contradictory at first, but they all aim to address feelings of uncertainty and lack of safety.
  • Everyone has unique traumatic experiences that contribute to their sense of unsafety, regardless of the severity or nature of those experiences.
  • Individual responses to therapy vary; some may find relief through simple techniques while others require deeper psychological work for issues like PTSD.
  • A combination of different modalities might be necessary for effective healing, as each person's journey is distinct.

Personal Experiences with Journaling and Therapy

  • Engaging with journaling practices, as discussed by Nicole, can provide significant benefits; many find it transformative even without direct interaction with a therapist.
  • The speaker shares that reading Nicole's book provided more insight than traditional therapy sessions had offered over time.
  • There’s a common resistance among individuals when confronting painful memories or emotions due to fear of becoming overwhelmed or stuck in depression.

Video description

Welcome to the first episode of 'Your Stories' by My TMS Journey. A new series of interviews and conversations where we talk to members of the chronic pain / TMS community, to discover what's working (or indeed NOT working) for them in their mind-body recovery. I wanted to create a space where everyone in this chronic pain community could have a voice and share their breakthroughs and any lightbulb "a-ha" moments, no matter how small they may seem they could be hugely beneficial to share. This journey is different for everyone, but we can all learn so much from each other. We all have different coping strategies and modalities to becoming chronic symptom-free, so giving more of you the opportunity to share feels like the right thing to do. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to meet more of you face to face, and further build a personality-filled community of people that actually get to know one another a little better. Which can be a huge benefit to the human connection part of recovery in itself. In this episode I (Dani Fagan) talk to Charlotte Faul, joining the conversation from quarantine in Singapore! Charlotte has experienced intense sciatic pain for 15+ years. In January this year, she underwent major spinal surgery to ease her pain. Disappointingly, the surgery made little difference causing her to feel even more desperate for a cure. This is where Charlotte found out about TMS through the Curable app, and work from the likes of Nicole Sachs, Dan Buglio, Alan Gordon and Howard Schubiner. Charlotte has made great strides in improving her quality of life and whilst she still has symptoms, her mindset has changed completely and she is able to enjoy life more than she thought possible! Join me in hearing from Charlotte I really hope you enjoy this testimony!
