What is Heat Transfer?
Understanding Heat Transfer
- In physics, heat is defined as the process of energy transfer from one body to another, flowing from a higher temperature body to a lower temperature body.
- When two bodies at different temperatures are in close proximity, there will always be a heat exchange until they reach thermal equilibrium.
- For example, if an ice cream at 15 degrees Celsius is placed in an environment with air at 30 degrees Celsius, the warmer air transfers heat to the ice cream until both reach 30 degrees Celsius.
- Conversely, a hot beverage at 60 degrees Celsius will transfer heat to the cooler surrounding air until both equilibrate at around 30 degrees Celsius.
