Mose und die 10 Gebote – Der Animationsfilm zur Bibelgeschichte (Teil 2/3)

The Journey of the Israelites: From Egypt to Sinai

The Bitter Waters of Mara

  • After crossing the Red Sea, Moses leads the Israelites through the wilderness for three days without finding water. They arrive at Mara, but the water is bitter and undrinkable. The people complain about their situation, longing for Egypt where they had water.
  • Moses reassures them that God can provide for their needs as He did in Egypt. God instructs Moses to throw a piece of wood into the bitter waters, which then becomes sweet and drinkable. This act serves as a lesson in trusting God's provision.

Hunger in the Wilderness

  • Despite having their thirst quenched, the Israelites soon begin to complain about hunger, reminiscing about their time in Egypt when they had plenty to eat. They express despair over being led into the wilderness to die from starvation.
  • God responds by promising to rain down bread from heaven (manna) for them to gather daily, except on the Sabbath when they are instructed to collect double on Friday. This is meant to teach them reliance on Him and obedience to His commands.

Water from the Rock

  • As they continue their journey and face another lack of water at Rephidim, tensions rise among the people who confront Moses angrily about their dire situation. They question why he brought them out of Egypt only for them to die of thirst in the desert.
  • God instructs Moses to take some elders with him and strike a rock at Horeb with his staff; this results in an abundant flow of water for everyone to drink, demonstrating God's continued faithfulness despite Israel's complaints.

Battle Against Amalek

  • While camped at Rephidim, Israel faces an attack from Amalekites—a fierce desert tribe—despite being untrained for battle. Joshua is chosen by Moses to lead men into combat while Moses will stand on a hill with God's staff raised high during the fight.
  • As long as Moses holds up his hands with the staff, Israel prevails; however, when he grows weary and lowers his hands, Amalek gains ground until Aaron and Hur support him by holding up his arms until victory is achieved at sunset.

Jethro’s Advice

  • Jethro, priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses hears about all that God has done for Israel and visits them in the wilderness bringing along Zipporah and her sons.

He observes how overwhelmed Moses is handling disputes alone among such a large group of people seeking guidance from him daily.

Jethro advises appointing capable leaders over smaller groups so that burdens can be shared effectively among many rather than one person carrying it all alone.

Moses takes this advice seriously and implements it immediately after Jethro returns home.

Revelation at Mount Sinai

  • The Israelites arrive at Mount Sinai where God reveals Himself dramatically amidst thunderous sounds and lightning as He prepares them for receiving His commandments.

Moses ascends Mount Sinai where God instructs him on how He delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt while emphasizing obedience as key criteria for being His treasured possession among nations.

The people agree unanimously to follow God's commands upon hearing His words relayed back through Moses.

Receiving The Ten Commandments

  • On Mount Sinai amid divine manifestations including smoke & fire representing God's presence; He delivers ten commandments outlining moral laws governing human behavior towards each other & relationship with Him directly emphasizing worship exclusivity towards Him alone while forbidding idolatry or coveting others' possessions.

The Israelites wait anxiously below fearing what might happen if they disobey these new rules set forth by Yahweh through His servant Mosheh (Moses).

They grow impatient leading some individuals astray resulting ultimately into creating false idols like golden calves instead turning away completely from true worship practices established earlier thus incurring severe consequences later described throughout biblical narratives surrounding Exodus events leading up till now!
