ODS 15 | Vida de ecosistemas terrestres
The 2030 Agenda 17 Sustainable Development Goals to transform our world.
This section introduces the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SDG 15 – Life on land
- SDG 15 focuses on sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and halting biodiversity loss.
Importance of forests and terrestrial ecosystems
- Forests are essential for maintaining biodiversity and act as the planet's lungs. However, human activity leads to the disappearance of 13 million hectares of forest each year.
- The 2030 Agenda emphasizes the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of all terrestrial ecosystems, including mountains, rivers, lakes, and wetlands.
Goals to achieve SDG 15
- The agenda proposes several goals to achieve SDG 15:
- Halt desertification, deforestation, poaching, and trafficking of protected species.
- Reduce the degradation of natural habitats.
- Halt the loss of biodiversity.
- Protect threatened species.
- Prevent introduction of invasive alien species.
- Reforest areas that have been deforested.
Financial resources and community capacity
- To achieve these goals, it is necessary to increase financial resources and build the capacity of local communities to pursue a lifestyle in harmony with nature.
Conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems
- Conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems is a fundamental part of sustainable development.
