DIY Concrete Block Shed Foundation (12x10 ft)
Building a New Shed Foundation
Overview of the Project
- The video begins with an introduction to building a new foundation for a shed, replacing an 18-year-old existing foundation.
- The area has been cleared for the new construction, which will utilize cinder blocks as the primary material.
Materials Used
- A basic cinder block foundation is planned for a 12x10 ft shed, with 200 lbs of gravel to prevent sinking in Louisiana's soil.
- Additional materials include painted 2x6 boards (12 ft and 10 ft long), enhancing durability.
Foundation Layout and Leveling
- Initial steps involve laying out the boards to determine cinder block placement and ensuring everything is level.
- After securing corner blocks with screws, measurements are taken diagonally to confirm that the structure is square.
Setting Up Cinder Blocks
- Gravel is placed in dug holes under each cinder block to ensure stability; leveling checks are performed continuously.
- Once two sides are completed and leveled, work continues on the remaining sides.
Finalizing Structure Before Deck Installation
- Markings are made every 16 inches on each side for board placement; additional cinder blocks will be added for support.
- All center blocks are installed, followed by re-measuring corners to ensure plumb before deck installation begins.
Installing Deck Boards
- The video discusses using either 4x8 or preferable 4x10 sheets of plywood; deck screws (1.5 inches long) will secure them in place.
