Introduction to Synology Drive Server
In this section, we are introduced to Synology Drive Server and its features.
Syncing Files with Synology Drive Server
- With Synology Drive Server, you can sync files on your computer to your Synology NAS.
- Once the data has been properly synced, you can easily share the link with others.
- Synology Drive Server also saves multiple versions of your files for quick recovery if necessary.
Enabling Shared Folder as a Team Folder
- To enable a shared folder as a team folder, launch Synology Drive Admin Console.
- Go to the Team Folder page and select the shared folder you want to sync with.
- Click Enable and configure version control if needed. Then click OK.
Configuring Permissions for Shared Folders
- To configure permissions for the shared folder, go to Control Panel > Shared Folder.
- Select the folder that was enabled as a Team Folder and click Edit > Permissions.
- Make sure that the permissions are configured appropriately and click Save if any changes were made.
Checking User Permissions in Synology Drive
- To check user permissions in Synology Drive, go to Control Panel > Application Privileges > Synology Drive.
- Configure user and group permissions as necessary and click Save.
Setting up Connection between Synology NAS and Computer
- Download and install Synology Drive Client to your computer from the Synology Download Center.
- Launch Synology Drive Client and connect to your Synology NAS using its domain name, QuickConnect ID, or IP address. Enter the username and password.
- Select Sync Task and confirm the path of the local and remote folders you want to sync.
Advanced Sync Settings
- To configure advanced sync settings, click Advanced in Synology Drive Client.
- On the File Filter page, you can filter out certain file sizes, filenames, or extensions from being synced.
- On the Sync Mode page, you can set the sync direction to two-way sync or one-way download/upload.
Finalizing Setup and Using Synology Drive Client
- Apply your settings, click Done to finish setup, and find the Synology Drive Client icon in the system tray.
- Left-click on the icon to view records of file uploads, downloads, and notifications. Double-click on it to launch the client.
- Open the sync folder in Windows File Explorer or Finder on Mac to directly drag files for syncing.
Sharing Files and Restoring Previous Versions
- Right-click on a synced file to get a file sharing link using Synology Drive.
- To download a previous version of a synced file, right-click on it and select Browse previous versions.
