Matrix of Change Explanation Module 3 session 2

Matrix of Change Explanation Module 3 session 2

Understanding the Matrix of Change

In this section, the speaker explains the purpose of the Matrix of Change and how to use it effectively.

Purpose of the Matrix of Change

  • The purpose of the Matrix of Change is to give an exercise to think about a proposed change as a transformational innovation.
  • The goal is to think about existing processes and how they would change in the future if you were to facilitate implementation.
  • The symbols in the center represent whether an existing process will complement or detract from a goal process.

Using the Matrix of Change Effectively

  • Think about your existing processes and what they might look like if you implement your proposed change.
  • There are different ways to structure your matrix, but focus on capturing ideas for both existing and goal processes.
  • The boxes on either side relate to each line in that process and how it relates to those above and below.

Understanding the Matrix of Change

In this section, Holly explains the concept of the Matrix of Change and how it can be applied to different scenarios. Participants express their appreciation for the explanation and ask for more examples.

Applying the Matrix of Change

  • Participants prefer spending time understanding concepts rather than feeling confused.
  • Holly's explanation removes frustration and difficulty in understanding the Matrix of Change.
  • The example given by Holly in this session, as well as an earlier one, helps participants understand the concept better.
  • A participant asks for more examples on how broad or granular they should go with applying the Matrix of Change.

Examples of Applying the Matrix of Change

  • Holly shares her experience in applying the Matrix of Change to Learning and Development and Talent Management at World Vision entity level. Her ultimate goal was to make talent management and learning development open doors across the entire partnership.
  • Holly suggests that other people can focus on a process improvement such as accounting process through six modules. It depends on what they want to focus on.

00:00 Understanding the Matrix of Change Section Overview: In this section, Stephen Franz explains the purpose of the Matrix of Change and how to approach it. Purpose of the Matrix of Change 00:30 The purpose of the Matrix of Change is to give an exercise to think about a proposed change as a transformational innovation. 00:55 The goal is to think about existing processes and how they would change in the future if you were to facilitate implementation. 01:43 The symbols in the center represent whether an existing process will complement or detract from a goal process. Approaching the Matrix of Change 02:14 There are five key components that need to be considered when creating a matrix: existing processes, goal processes, complementary changes, detracting changes, and neither. 03:10 It's not a perfect science, but it's important to think about your existing processes and what they might look like if you implement your proposed change. 03:51 There are different ways to approach writing out your existing processes. You can either list them out separately or write each line as a step in one process. 04:40 The boxes on either side relate to each line in that process and how it relates to those above and below. 06:43 Understanding the Matrix of Change Section Overview: In this section, Holly explains the concept of the Matrix of Change and how it can be applied to different scenarios. Participants express their appreciation for the explanation and ask for more examples. Applying the Matrix of Change 07:05 Participants prefer spending time understanding concepts rather than feeling confused. 07:29 Holly's explanation removes frustration and difficulty in understanding the Matrix of Change. 07:53 The example given by Holly in this session, as well as an earlier one, helps participants understand the concept better. 08:15 A participant asks for more examples on how broad or granular they should go with applying the Matrix of Change. 08:59 Holly shares her experience with applying the Matrix of Change to Learning and Development and talent management at World Vision entity level. She also gives an example of a process improvement project that focused on one accounting process through six modules.
