• Don't use it to inform decisions on what charts to include in your dashboard and certainly don't include charts for the sake of art.

• The prime driver of the visuals you include in your report should meet the business purpose of the dashboard.

• Use line or column charts when displaying data over time.

• Use pie or donut charts when showing parts to a whole with three or less segments.

• Use bar charts when your categories have long labels.
