The INSANE world of National Socialism’s Aryan Religion
This history video discusses the origins of National Socialism, going back to prehistory to look at the Ancient Aryans (the Proto-Indo-Europeans), the rise of nationalism in Germany and Austria-Hungary, the views of numerous völkisch writers like Guido von List, Jörg Lanz von Liebenfels, and Hans Günther (the Race Pope). And we'll tie that all together by discussing how their beliefs in Hyperboreans, Atlantis, and Fohat played into Hitler's and Himmler's beliefs in race, Lebensraum (living space) and a supposed Aryan enclave in Tibet... I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. The INSANE world of National Socialism’s Aryan Religion
Ernst Schäfer and the Search for the Aryan Race
This section introduces Ernst Schäfer, who led an expedition to Tibet in 1939 on behalf of Heinrich Himmler. The goal of the expedition was to find evidence that would support the Nazi belief in a superior Aryan race.
The Expedition to Tibet
- Ernst Schäfer led an expedition to Tibet in 1939.
- The expedition was sent by Heinrich Himmler, who wanted to find evidence of the Aryan race.
- The team conducted experiments, took photos and collected artifacts during their time in Tibet.
- Himmler hoped that if they could prove that Aryans had been in these far away lands, it would justify reclaiming their rightful living space in the East and exterminating other races.
The Origins of the Aryan Race
This section explores the origins of the term "Aryan" and how it became associated with Nazi ideology.
Sir William Jones' Discovery
- Sir William Jones discovered that most European Middle Eastern and Indian languages had actually all been derived from the same parent tongue - proto-indo-european language.
- Jones called speakers of this ancient language Aryans, which became a new term into our language.
Problems with Using "Aryan" as a Term
- Technically there's no way to know whether these were a United tribe or even one race or population.
- Language isn't race, so the language doesn't tell us whether they were all blonde blue-eyed Super Saiyans or if some of them were little green men from Mars.
The Evolution of Language
This section explains how language evolves over time and provides an example of how the word "hundred" evolved from proto-indo-european to modern languages.
The Evolution of the Word "Hundred"
- The word kantum was the proto-indo-european word for a hundred.
- Over time, it evolved into kentum which was how the Romans and Latins pronounced it.
- From this we get sentim in old Italian and sent in French and other languages which is why a cent is one hundredth of a dollar or why a century is a hundred years.
- If we go automatic come to them and listen to the first letter k, it's as if there's an h after the K like a KH.
The Aryan Homeland
This section discusses the location of the Aryans and how it was determined.
Determining the Location of the Aryans
- Proto-Indo-Europeans had copper and later bronze, which rules out Europe.
- They had words for horses and beekeeping, which rules out the Middle East, Siberia, and Central Asian steps of Kazakhstan.
- They were farmers and animal breeders, not hunter-gatherers, which means that northern forests of Europe are excluded.
- By going through all the words used by proto-Indo-Europeans, we can narrow down their location to the step region south and west of the orals and north of the Caucasus.
Nationalism in Central Europe
This section discusses nationalism in Central Europe during the 1800s.
Rise of Nationalism in Central Europe
- In the 1800s there was a lot of fascination with an ancient tribe called Aryans who conquered Northwestern India.
- Language distinguishes us from other speakers and creates communities or folks.
- Nationalists hijacked Darwin's natural selection idea to explain why some races or folks ruled over others.
- German speakers in Central Europe embraced these ideas especially those in multiethnic Habsburg Empire who wanted a pan-German Empire that included all little states plus Austrians.
- Failure to unite all German speakers frustrated many nationalists whose reaction was to increase intensity of their pan-German theories.
German Imperialism
This section discusses German imperialism during industrialization.
Latecomers to Industrialization
- Germany and Austria were late comers to this industrial world with pre-capitalist attitudes surviving.

Austrian German Racist Nationalism
This section discusses Austrian German racist nationalism.
Reaction to Perceived Attack on Culture
- Austrian German racist nationalism was a reaction to a perceived attack on their culture by other nationalities within a multiethnic Empire.
- The more the state and powers called for unity and inclusivity, which is anti-national by nature, the worse the reaction became intense internationalism drove people into nationalist camp eventually resulting in two of the biggest wars in history and destruction of millions of people in following decades.

The Great International Party
- Von List sought a more concrete personification of these widespread socio-economic transformations in the monolithic conspiracy of the great international party.
- He said that the great international party could be discerned in financial institutions, political parties, and their neglect of German national interests.
- He demanded the annihilation of the great international party in order that the Aryan Germans could enter the promised land of happiness and prosperity.
Pan-German Empire
- Von List's blueprints for a new pan-German empire called for the ruthless subjection of non-Aryans to Aryan masters in a highly structured hierarchical society.

The Importance of Territorial Claims
- The World Ice Theory was partly used to support territorial claims.
- Carl Maria Villegut, nicknamed the Rasputin of Himmler, was sought out for his psychic services to provide more concrete evidence for these claims.
