In this video, Sam Gupta from Elevate IQ discusses the top 10 ERP systems for automotive companies in 2023. The list is compiled based on factors such as market share, community reviews, cloud nativeness of the solution, and technology.

Introduction to Automotive Sector

  • The automotive sector includes all stakeholders involved in the automotive ecosystem such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers (tier one and tier two), and compliance requirements.
  • The industry has unique needs due to compliance requirements and deeper IT capabilities.

Oracle Cloud ERP

  • Ranked number 10 on the list.
  • Targeted towards large publicly traded automotive companies with entities in more than ten countries.
  • Best suited for companies that require best-of-breed applications due to their deeper IT capabilities.
  • Weaknesses include lack of specific capabilities required by the automotive industry and not designed for small to mid-size businesses.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 FNO

  • Ranked number nine on the list.
  • Designed for slightly larger companies but lacks last-mile capabilities found in other vertical solutions.

SAP S/4HANA

  • Ranked number eight on the list.
  • Offers a comprehensive solution with strong financial management capabilities but may be too complex for some organizations.

Epicor ERP

  • Ranked number seven on the list.
  • Offers a flexible solution that can be customized to meet specific business needs but may require additional resources during implementation.

IFS Applications

  • Ranked number six on the list.
  • Offers a comprehensive solution with strong project management capabilities but may not be suitable for small to mid-size businesses.

Infor CloudSuite Industrial

  • Ranked number five on the list.
  • Offers a cloud-native solution with strong supply chain management capabilities but may require additional customization for specific business needs.

  • Offers a cloud-based solution with strong manufacturing and supply chain management capabilities, as well as flexibility in customization.

TMS and ERP Solutions for Automotive Companies

In this section, the speaker discusses the benefits and drawbacks of using a dedicated Transportation Management System (TMS) versus embedding it as part of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution. They also discuss Microsoft Dynamics 365 FNO and SAP S4HANA as potential solutions for automotive companies.

Dedicated TMS vs Embedded TMS in ERP

  • Embedding a TMS into an ERP solution may not provide the same insights as having a separate, dedicated TMS.
  • Some companies prefer to use best-of-breed TMS and Warehouse Management System (WMS) solutions because they are easier to learn, manage, and work with.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 FNO has a leaner data model on top of its horizontal solution but is not comparable to some vertical solutions.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 FNO is not fit for SMB companies because they require more expertise in developing vertical capabilities on top of the horizontal solution. The Last Mile capabilities are also lean.
  • Add-ons developed by third-party vendors can be risky due to conflicts between vendors or poor quality code.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 FNO

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 FNO is not designed for SMB companies or assembly companies due to its size. MES is not integrated either.
  • Last Mile capabilities require customization or add-ons from third-party vendors.
  • Despite these weaknesses, Microsoft Dynamics 365 FNO remains a strong solution for automotive companies.

SAP S4HANA

  • SAP S4HANA is one of the strongest solutions for product-centric MRP-centric industries, especially for large companies with millions of SKUs.
  • Automotive companies have a unique complexity due to the number of components and layers of assembly required. SAP S4HANA is strong in these capabilities.
  • SAP S4HANA offers best-of-breed pre-integrated solutions such as SuccessFactors, Ariba, and Cloud for CPQ.
  • Automotive-specific capabilities may require add-ons or customization. The SAP ecosystem is not as well-established as Microsoft's but is improving.

Overall, both Microsoft Dynamics 365 FNO and SAP S4HANA are strong solutions for automotive companies with their own strengths and weaknesses. Companies should consider their specific needs when choosing between them.

SAP S4HANA, IFS, and Epicor Kinetic

This section discusses the strengths and weaknesses of three solutions for automotive companies: SAP S4HANA, IFS, and Epicor Kinetic.

SAP S4HANA

  • Requires a large IT department and mature department to handle it.
  • Strong solution overall but limited manufacturing capabilities.
  • Ranks at number eight on the list.

IFS

  • Specializes in field service, asset management, and financials.
  • Cloud-native UI/UX with superior experience compared to other platforms.
  • Weaknesses include limited manufacturing capabilities and not designed for constraint-based manufacturing or automotive-centric supply collaboration features.
  • Ranks at number seven on the list.

Epicor Kinetic

  • Mid-market solution targeting mixed-mode manufacturing companies with diverse business models.
  • Strengths include pre-integrated MES (with or without Kinetic), automotive-specific capabilities like PPAP compliance support, and slightly superior support for project-based manufacturing.
  • Weaknesses include struggling with complex MRP runs and field service capabilities. Bomb data integrity is also not as strong due to its original design for assembly-centric shops.
  • Ranks at number six on the list.

Epicor Kinetic and IQMS

This section discusses the strengths and weaknesses of Epicor Kinetic and IQMS, two mid-market products targeted for automotive companies.
