IKEA DIY HACK | Platform Bed
Introduction
The video introduces the project of making over a teenage room with a cool platform bed and chill zone.
Planning the Bed
The creator plans to use IKEA's Eket product line for building the bed. The cabinets are versatile, modular, and come in different colors. They can be stacked, hung or combined endlessly.
- The creator uses IKEA's online planning tool to combine different elements of the Eket series.
- A total of 12 individual elements were bought from Ikea for less than $800.
- Cabinets numbered 6 to 10 were placed individually to support either the platform or hold the bed in place.
Building the Bed
The creator builds a slanted frame for the queen-size bed using two by fours attached vertically to the wall. Coated plywood boards are used as steps onto the platform.
- Two by fours are cut into length and drilled with holes for vertical attachment to the wall later on.
- One cabinet is placed underneath the slanted frame adding another 2x4 to distribute weight and provide stability.
- Four coated plywood boards are cut in length and carved out for step shape onto platform.
- Double-sided carpet tape is glued onto boards for coziness. A wool carpet is selected for underfoot comfort.
Finishing Touches
The creator adds finishing touches such as a wall panel with bedside lamp, picture frames, Bluetooth speaker, decoration, LED string lights, pillows, blankets and a bed canopy suspended from ceiling.
- A wall panel with a bedside lamp, picture frames, Bluetooth speaker and decoration are added.
