The Animals' Curiosity

• The story begins with various animals desiring to know what the moon tastes like, wondering if it is sweet or salty. They long to try a piece of it.

• Every night, the animals look up at the sky, stretching their necks, legs, and arms in vain attempts to reach the moon; even the largest animal cannot touch it.

The Turtle's Plan

• One day, a small turtle decides to climb the highest mountain to get closer to the moon. However, she still cannot reach it from that height.

• The turtle calls upon an elephant for help, suggesting that if he climbs on her back, they might be able to reach the moon together.

Attempts by Other Animals

• As each animal tries to help—first the giraffe and then the zebra—the moon playfully moves further away each time they approach.

• When a lion joins in on their quest by climbing onto the turtle’s back, again they fail as the moon retreats once more at his sight.
