Roles in Film Production

The Technical Team

• The scriptwriter is responsible for writing the script and usually gets paid in three parts: upon delivery of the script, at the beginning of filming, and at the end of filming. Their payment can range from 0 to 18,000 euros for novice writers and between 25,000 to 50,000 euros for established ones.

• The composer's main work begins once the film is edited. They compose music that aligns with specific moments in the film. The producer owns the film and takes on financial risks by seeking funding. They typically receive around 50% of box office profits.

• The production manager oversees all aspects of production during filming, solving any problems that arise. They have the authority to dismiss team members who are not performing adequately.

• The location manager handles negotiations with location owners, agrees on prices, and ensures necessary permits are obtained. They earn between 600 and 1200 euros per week.

Creative Team

• The director is responsible for artistic and narrative quality, deciding on the tone of the film, casting choices, and making corrections as needed. They earn around 25% of royalties plus an average salary of 60,000 euros per film.

• The first assistant director organizes the set during filming, manages time and resources efficiently to support the director's work. They earn between 90 and 1,100 euros per month.

• The director of photography or cinematographer works closely with makeup artists, costume designers, and art teams to create visually appealing images that convey emotions effectively. Their role involves choosing camera equipment, lighting setups, colors, etc.

Camera Crew

• The camera operator handles camera movements and framing while being responsible for capturing the desired shots. They are often also the cinematographer in low-budget productions.

• The focus puller ensures that the camera remains focused on the intended subject or object. They also maintain and clean the camera equipment.

• The electricians handle lighting setups, positioning and connecting lighting devices. They earn around 90 to 120 euros per day.

Sound and Other Roles

• The sound technician is responsible for recording high-quality sound during filming, ensuring clarity and continuity for post-production. They earn between 1000 and 1200 euros per week.

• The set decorator works closely with the art team to create the desired appearance of sets and props. They earn around 1200 euros per week.

• The film lab technician handles film processing and color grading to enhance image quality. Their role is crucial for maintaining consistent visual aesthetics.

• Actors' salaries vary greatly depending on their recognition and prestige, while stunt performers receive weekly payments ranging from 800 to 1200 euros.
