Schlimann le había prometido al gobierno turco que no sacaría el tesoro del país. Así que sólo le quedaba una elección, tenía que sacarlo a Escondidos. Según el propio Schlimann, una noche él y su mujer sacaron el oro de Troja en un barco y se lo llevaron a su país de adopción creciendo.
