Military Operations in the B Pass Area

Overview of Air and Ground Assaults

  • The E38 aircraft deployed napalm fire bombs targeting Japanese troop concentrations, supply dumps, and communication lines in the B Pass area.
  • A20 aircraft engaged fortified mountain positions where enemy resistance was strong, hindering the advance of Sixth Army troops into Kayan Valley.

Capture of Strategic Locations

  • After two months of intense fighting, Japanese forces were expelled from Santa Fe, a crucial highway village.
  • U.S. troops utilized grenades to clear bypassed cave pockets in Santa Fe; remaining enemy positions were eliminated with point-blank rifle fire.

Weaponry and Tactical Advances

  • Captured weaponry included a 90mm mortar and a 150mm mortar, both smoothbore muzzle-loading weapons capable of firing incendiary shells.

Air Support Operations

  • Thunderbolts, Lightnings, and Mustangs from the Fifth Air Force conducted airstrikes on Japanese defenses within the Manila watershed.
  • Bazookas initiated an assault by 38th Division troops on installations at Wawa Dam; they advanced cautiously against hidden enemy jets to capture the dam intact.
