CONVERT A SHOP VAC TO A PROFESSIONAL EXTRACTOR

Turning a Shop Vac into a Professional Grade Extractor

In this video, the speaker demonstrates how to turn a shop vac into a professional-grade extractor with a commercial-grade head and fittings. The speaker explains the necessary modifications and fittings required to achieve this.

Modifying the Shop Vac

  • Remove the dry filter from the shop vac and replace it with a wet filter to handle water.
  • This is the only modification needed for the shop vac.

Fittings Required

  • Use quarter-inch quick disconnect fitting that mounts straight onto the spray head.
  • Use quarter-inch national pipe thread fitting on air hose end.
  • Use garden hose fitting with quarter-inch national pipe threads on other end.
  • Use inch-and-a-half threaded hose cuff and an inch-and-a-half push sleeve for connecting hoses.

Connecting Water Supply

  • Connect water supply using garden hose or mobile detailing van with water pump.
  • Air hose can be used as it has quarter-inch national pipe threads on its end.
  • Attach quick disconnect fitting to sprayer head and garden hose fitting to water source using teflon tape.

Connecting Hoses

  • Determine size of vacuum hose by measuring diameter of existing fitting (inch-and-a-half in this case).
  • Replace original vacuum hose fitting with new one that has an inch-and-a-half push fitting on one side and threads on other side.
  • Connect vacuum hose to sprayer head using inch-and-a-half push sleeve and zip tie in place.

Overall, this video provides clear instructions on how to modify a shop vac into a professional-grade extractor. The speaker explains all necessary fittings required for connecting hoses, attaching water supply, and modifying the shop vac. The video is informative and easy to follow, making it a great resource for those looking to upgrade their shop vac.

Protecting the Hose

In this section, Jeremy discusses options for protecting the vacuum hose and water hose from damage during use.

Hose Protection Options

  • A hose sock can be used to cover the entire hose and protect it from damage.
  • Velcro straps can also be used to hold everything together.
  • The rough edge on zip ties can be filed down to make them smooth and prevent damage.

Testing the Upholstery Tool

In this section, Jeremy tests out the upholstery tool by cleaning a seat in his truck.

Cleaning Process

  • Mix three ounces of carpet cleaner with 15 ounces of water in an IK sprayer.
  • Spray the mixture onto the seat.
  • Use a drill brush to agitate the fabric and loosen dirt.
  • Follow up with the extractor tool to remove dirt and excess water.
  • Repeat until all suds are gone from fabric.
  • Keep extracting until all soap is removed from fabric.

Efficient Upholstery Cleaning

In this section, Jeremy demonstrates how quickly he can clean a seat using the upholstery tool.

Efficient Cleaning Process

  • With a wide upholstery tool like this one, three or four swipes are enough to clean an entire seat efficiently.

Extracting Floor Mats

In this section, Jeremy uses the extractor tool on floor mats in his truck.

Floor Mat Cleaning Process

  • Apply carpet cleaner using an IK sprayer.
  • Agitate with drill brush to loosen dirt.
  • Use extractor tool to remove dirt and excess water.

Impressive Results

In this section, Jeremy shows off the impressive amount of dirt that was removed from the seat and floor mats.

Extraction Results

  • Even though the seat and floor mats did not appear to be very dirty, a significant amount of dirt was extracted.
  • The extractor tool worked better than expected, with strong suction power.

Rigid Portable Vac Converted to Semi-Professional Extractor

In this section, the speaker talks about his experience with converting a Rigid portable vac into a semi-professional extractor.

Performance of the Converted Rigid Portable Vac

  • The converted Rigid portable vac worked well and had good suction.
  • The spray head was ergonomic and had a great spray pattern on the fan.
  • The spray head had holes that provided good suction when laid down on fabric.
  • The user experience was good, and there were no issues with hoses or anything getting in the way.

Who is This For?

  • Detailing enthusiasts who do their own vehicles once in a while can use the Bissell Spot Clean Pro.
  • Those who need something more durable than the Bissell Spot Clean Pro can use the converted Rigid portable vac for routine extractions.
  • Professional detailers should get commercial-grade equipment instead of using these products.

Durability and Cost

  • The durability of the converted Rigid portable vac is excellent, making it an economical choice for those who already have a shop vac.
  • Commercial-grade equipment is expensive but worth it if you're going to be using it frequently enough to get your money's worth out of it.

Final Thoughts

The speaker recommends this product for those who want something stronger and more robust than the Bissell Spot Clean Pro but don't want to spend over $1500 on commercial-grade equipment. The converted Rigid portable vac is durable, economical, and provides medium to strong suction.

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I will keep them in mind while creating the notes.

Video description

Everything you need to convert your shop vac into a professional extractor. I have had my Ridgid portable Vac for a long time and have been asked this question a million times. Can you use a shop vac to extract carpet during auto detailing. The answer is yes kind of. In order to extract a carpet or interior fabrics effectively you need a water source to lightly spray the fabric while you vacuum it out. This water is sprayed in a precise area and amount based on the conditions. You need to be able to see what is being removed from the fabric through the clear viewing area on the extractor handle. This view tells you if the fabric still has either dirt or soap still in it and you can decide how much longer to continue in that spot. The attachment and the water spraying ability will make or break the process. I decided after watching a few videos and doing some research that it would be a great plan to convert my shop vac to have this ability. With the proper fittings and products your shop vac can be easily converted to a very usable auto detailing extractor or carpet spot cleaner. I have listed below all the parts and accessories that you will need to complete this project. This is a great auto detailing extractor kit that I like a lot.
