7 Camera Settings You Should Always Change
7 Simple Camera Settings to Get the Most Out of Any Camera
In this video, the speaker shares seven simple and quick camera settings that can be changed to get the most out of any camera. These settings are applicable for DSLR, point-and-shoot, or mirrorless cameras.
File Type
- Choose between shooting in RAW or JPEG.
- Shooting in RAW provides more control over the image and allows for recovery of highlights and shadows.
- Shooting in JPEG is convenient if you don't want to spend time post-processing your images.
- Selecting between compressed versus uncompressed determines file size and editing convenience.
Picture Profiles
- Picture profiles allow you to choose the color style of your image that will be applied in-camera.
- Picture profiles are valuable if you shoot JPEG or video.
- Shooting in log profiles gives a flatter image with more dynamic range that can be recovered in post-processing.
White Balance
- White balance adjusts the temperature of your image and is similar to picture profiles.
- For portraits and wedding photography, choose a white balance that makes photos look good on the back of the camera. Adjust it later during post-processing.
Exposure Compensation
- Exposure compensation adjusts how bright or dark an image appears by changing shutter speed, aperture, or ISO.
- Use exposure compensation when shooting in difficult lighting conditions such as backlighting.
Autofocus Settings
- Autofocus settings determine how quickly your camera focuses on a subject.
- Use single-point autofocus for still subjects and continuous autofocus for moving subjects.
Custom Buttons
- Custom buttons allow you to quickly access frequently used settings.
- Assign custom buttons for ISO, white balance, and autofocus.
Back Button Focus
- Back button focus separates the autofocus function from the shutter button.
- Use back button focus for more control over focusing and recomposing shots.
