Japan Resurgence
In this talk, Ataka discusses Japan's current situation and prospects for the future. He highlights the importance of big data and how it is changing the world. He also emphasizes the need for world-class scientists and engineers to work hard.
The Age of Big Data
- The biggest change in the world over the past 30 years is that people carry portable computers.
- Bandwidth is increasing at a tremendous rate, over 1,000-fold during the last decade.
- In 5 to 10 years, a 1-month plan will be something like 5 terabytes.
- This is called "big data". A tremendous amount of data is emerging.
Visualization and Industrial Revolution
- We can now visualize data which was previously impossible to see.
- As a result, we live in a unique time, close to an industrial revolution.
- With the next industrial revolution, we will be released from information processing burden.
Productivity and Wealth Creation
- According to research on human productivity for the past 2,000 years by a professor at Berkeley, from Roman Empire to industrial revolution human productivity only doubled. However, during the 150 years after that, productivity skyrocketed by nearly 100 times.
- It seems a sense of "changing the world" leads to success. In other words, this is an astonishing era in which dreaming creates wealth.
- To move forward: First use massive amounts of big data in various fields; Second process data with tremendous power at affordable costs; Third have world-class scientists and engineers work very hard.
Conclusion
- Ataka believes that we live in an extremely important and interesting time. We need to embrace living in this time, which is ridiculously lucky and super interesting.
Japan's Technological Challenges
In this section, the speaker discusses the challenges that Japan faces in terms of technology and innovation.
Autonomous Cars on Japanese Roads
- Japan has a high possibility of making the world's top autonomous car.
- However, Japanese roads are not suitable for autonomous cars due to their narrowness and complexity.
- Automatic cars cannot handle situations where an old lady comes driving from the other way yelling at you to get out of the way.
Data Processing in Japan
- Data processing costs are huge in Japan for some reason.
- There is no Japanese presence when it comes to data processing solutions.
- Japan is far behind on data processing compared to other countries like China and India.
Shortage of Analytical Talent in Japan
- There is a shortage of people who work with numbers in Japan.
- The number of people with analytical training is very small compared to other countries like the US and Poland.
- Only 20% of college students major in science in Japan, while over 60% do so in Korea and Germany.
Preparing for Phase 2 and 3
- While Japan missed Phase 1 during the Industrial Revolution, it should focus on preparing for Phases 2 and 3 instead.
- The speaker proposes that Japan should prepare to ride these waves by focusing on innovation and technology.
Emotional Line from "Godzilla Resurgence"
In this section, the speaker recites an emotional line from a recent film and shares some lines from "Godzilla Resurgence" that inspire hope in difficult circumstances.
Hope in Difficult Circumstances
- The speaker recites an emotional line from a recent film.
- The lines "Japan rose up through scrap and build, and we will rise again" are shared from "Godzilla Resurgence."
- Despite facing extreme circumstances, the speaker encourages starting fresh and enjoying the competition.
Conclusion
- The speaker concludes by thanking the audience for their attention.
