Helping an Injured Athlete Get Off the Field
In this section, we learn how to help an injured athlete get off the field.
Determining Which Leg is Injured
- Determine which leg is injured.
- Straighten the uninjured leg and bend the injured leg to make it easier to help them up.
Getting the Athlete Up
- Help prop up the athlete.
- Cross hands and put your foot on their foot.
- Take a big step back so that all your weight is coming forward.
- On the count of three, have them lean forward and stand up with their uninjured leg while not putting any pressure on their injured leg.
- If you're smaller, you need a big wide base and want to be leaning forward like this because they might pull you right over.
Walking with the Athlete
- Bring their hand around your waist and grab their belt.
- Walk and try to lean your hip in and kind of help them balance here so that they don't have to put any pressure on their uninjured leg.
