Architectural Innovation in Mountainous Regions

Challenging Nature with Design

  • In mountainous areas, houses at the foot of slopes face significant risks during the rainy season. A new architectural project aimed to confront this challenge creatively by designing structures that work with the mountain rather than against it.
  • The building's design features one end anchored directly to the mountainside while the other is suspended in mid-air using a central support cylinder, elevating the structure above ground level.

Adapting to Environmental Challenges

  • As rainfall increased, natural elements like stones and mudslides posed threats to the building. To enhance safety, architects added two additional circular pillars and elevated the entire structure further away from the slope.
  • This elevation not only improved safety but also provided expansive views of both mountains and sea, transforming a previously constrained terrace into a panoramic garden space.

Structural Reinforcement and Expansion

  • Inside the columns, large circular beams were installed, connected by vertical and diagonal bars for structural integrity. Below this was a complex reticulated mesh supporting an architectural innovation: an indoor pool.
  • The original two floors proved insufficient; thus, external rotating supports were designed on the roof for a spacious circular residential area. Central columns were extended further to suspend three additional circular housing blocks.

Enhancing Privacy and Security

  • Initially, these new blocks had thin walls that compromised privacy and security. Architects redesigned them with zigzag patterns—one solid side for privacy and another featuring wide balconies offering stunning views of nature.

This innovative approach ensured residents enjoyed both seclusion and breathtaking vistas from their homes.
