U.S. Dollar as we know it will be dead in 5-10 years - Lawrence Lepard (Part 1/2)

The US Dollar Will Be Dead in 10 Years

In this interview, Larry Lepard, managing partner and founder of Equity Management Associates, discusses the factors impacting the US dollar and why he believes it will be dead within 10 years.

Collapse of Financial System is Inevitable

  • Collapse of financial system is inevitable.
  • Second and third largest bank collapses in US history have occurred.
  • Dollar will effectively be restructured or have lost most of its value within 10 years.

Factors Impacting the Dollar

  • Several factors impacting the dollar including U.S macroeconomic picture, debasement of the dollar through excessive money printing, inability to contain inflation, and growing dedolarization trend led by BRICS following excessive weaponization of the US dollar in response to war in Ukraine.
  • Russia attacked Ukraine which started a round of currency debasement. Jerome Powell has tried to mimic Paul Volcker with a very rapid rate cut or rate increase series that he's gone through in 2022 which bursts everything bubble.

Safe Havens: Gold and Bitcoin

  • Both gold and Bitcoin are forms of sound money.
  • Long gold and long Bitcoin are safe havens through all crisis.

Bitcoin as Digital Sound Money

In this section, the speaker discusses his initial skepticism of Bitcoin and how he came to believe that it provides immutable digital scarcity. He also compares Bitcoin to gold and argues that it is becoming a form of digital gold.

Bitcoin's Creation

  • The speaker was initially skeptical of Bitcoin because he thought you couldn't have a digital form of currency on a computer.
  • However, over time, he became convinced that what the creators of Bitcoin had created was truly revolutionary.
  • The speaker believes that Bitcoin is effectively becoming a form of digital gold due to its adoption.

Two Kinds of Sound Money

  • According to the speaker, there are two kinds of sound money in the world: analog sound money (gold) and digital sound money (Bitcoin).
  • While some people argue that Bitcoin hasn't gone far enough to prove its worth, the speaker believes that its performance in terms of price appreciation and risk measurement has been impressive.

Who Created Bitcoin?

In this section, the speaker discusses his belief that Satoshi Nakamoto was not one person but rather a committee. He also talks about some of the core developers who worked on creating Bitcoin.

Satoshi Nakamoto

  • Based on his research into old books and email threads from the early days of Bitcoin, the speaker believes that there were about five or six people who were really the core guys working on it.
  • The speaker thinks Hal Finney might have known who Satoshi was, while Lynn Sassamine might have been Satoshi himself.
  • Ultimately, however, the speaker believes that they all collectively worked to create Bitcoin.

Decentralization

  • The speaker explains that Bitcoin is controlled by core developers and voted on by all the users, node holders, and miners.
  • While there have been some big fights over the years (e.g. hash wars, fork wars), the fact that it's a public source set of codes means that anyone can look at it and see it.

Watch Part 2 here: https://youtu.be/zCyiv0X847Q In part 1 of this two-part interview, Larry Lepard, Managing Partner and Founder of Equity Management Associates, and Michelle Makori, Lead Anchor and Editor-in-Chief at Kitco News, discuss the unfolding de-dollarization trend, and why Lepard thinks the dollar as we know it will end within the decade. He explains why he thinks gold and Bitcion are the best safe havens for investors, and provides his price forecast for these assets. Lepard explains why he forecasts hyperinflation in the U.S., as the government prints money to pay down increasing debt, and why this will be accompanied by a 'serious downturn' that could rival the Great Depression. He closes with his thoughts on the challenge to dollar hegemony from the BRICS nations, which are looking to form a reserve currency to rival the U.S. dollar.  Follow Larry Lepard on Twitter: @LawrenceLepard (https://twitter.com/LawrenceLepard) Follow Michelle Makori on Twitter: @MichelleMakori (https://twitter.com/MichelleMakori) Follow Kitco News on Twitter: (@KitcoNewsNOW) https://twitter.com/KitcoNewsNOW 0:00 - Dollar debasement 4:12 - Investment thesis 6:46 - Satoshi's identity 10:48 - Debt implosion 16:18 - Fed policy 18:45 - Another Great Depression? 22:40 - Stock market crash 25:40 - Stagflation with hyperinflation 31:30 - Restructuring the dollar 32:28 - BRICS reserve asset 42:19 - Gold 46:00 - Multipolar world 52:25 - 'End of the road' #gold #bitcoin #dollar __________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the gold standard in precious metals, commodities, cryptocurrencies, mining, and financial news.
