Learning the Bones

In this video, Ben from Registered will teach you how to learn the major bones in anatomy and science classes. He covers the skull, cranium, collarbone, sternum, ribs, shoulder blade, vertebrae, arm bones, hand bones, hip bone (pelvis), femur bone and lower leg bones.

The Skull and Cranium

  • The skull is made up of cranial bones.
  • Remember that your cranium sounds like brain ium.
  • There's a board game called cranium that can help you remember it.

Collarbone and Sternum

  • Your collarbone is also known as your clavicle.
  • Your sternum is located at the center of your chest.
  • The sternum has three parts: manubrium, xiphoid process.

Shoulder Blade and Vertebrae

  • Your shoulder blades are also known as scapulae.
  • Scapula sounds like back which can help you remember it.
  • Your vertebrae are divided into three sections: cervical (top), thoracic (middle), lumbar (lower).

Arm Bones

  • The top bone in your arm is called the humerus.
  • The two bones in your forearm are called radius and ulna.

Hand Bones

  • The collection of small bones in your wrist is called carpals.
  • Carpals sound like driving a car which can help you remember it.
  • Phalanges are the finger bones.

Hip Bone

  • Your hip bone is also known as pelvis.
  • Pelvis sounds like leg which can help you remember it.

Femur Bone

-The femur bone comes right out from the hip bone.

Lower Leg Bones

-The tibia is larger than fibula.
