Introduction to the Keyboard
- The keyboard is an input device that allows users to enter alphanumeric data and commands into a computer.
- It is divided into six main parts or blocks, each serving different functions.
Function Keys
- Function keys (F1-F12) are located at the top of the keyboard and perform specific functions or shortcuts in programs.
- Some portable keyboards replace function keys with icons representing their functions, such as volume control and screen brightness.
Alphanumeric Keys
- Alphanumeric keys include all letters of the alphabet, punctuation marks, symbols, and numbers, enabling text entry.
Numeric Keypad
- The numeric keypad resembles a calculator layout, featuring numbers 0-9 along with mathematical operation symbols for calculations.
Control Keys
- Control keys can be used alone or in combination to access various computer functions; commonly used ones include Windows key, Control key, Escape key, and Command key on Mac systems.
